Converting a file is the cheap part — it’s free. What you pay Crosspad for is a migration that’s accounted for: every net, net class, rule and copper fill a standard Altium → KiCad migration can silently drop, detected, repaired where it can be proven safe, and the rest clearly flagged. A standard Altium → KiCad migration produces a file that opens — and quietly leaves things behind. Net-class membership can be dropped so rules constrain nothing (documented: KiCad #15584). Buses that share a member name can arrive unconnected (KiCad #20707, ≤10.0.4). Channel suffixes get stripped, C33A / C33B → C33, into duplicate references (KiCad #24861). Older ASCII boards can import as nothing, with no error at all (KiCad #18467). Crosspad’s price buys the process that catches every one of those against your source — repairs what it can prove safe, and flags the rest as a clear decision. That’s the thing that isn’t free.

How much does an Altium → KiCad migration cost?

One project = one Altium .PcbDoc board file, binary or ASCII text — or a .zip that holds exactly one such board, opened for that board alone. Schematics (.SchDoc), project files (.PrjPcb) and libraries are outside the launch scope, inside an archive as much as on their own — the free analysis names them as unsupported and never bills for them. Zipping a project buys the board in it, not the project.

One price per project, paid once — not a per-seat subscription. Checkout sells three packs — 1, 5 and 10 migration credits — and the larger packs bring the effective per-project price down. Volumes beyond those packs are quoted after a free archive assessment, not sold at a published rate. Every migration includes the full verification evidence report.

  • Your board, migrated to KiCad

    Your .PcbDoc as a .kicad_pcb board, delivered in crosspad-migration.zip, which carries what the engine produced for your run — the .kicad_pcb board, the component and net inventories, the DRC and import reports and the full migration report. Schematics (.SchDoc) are outside the launch scope — the free analysis names them as unsupported rather than billing for them.

  • An evidence report

    Every component, net, rule and layer on your board accounted for — verified, repaired, or flagged as your decision.

  • Auto-repairs, validated

    Discrepancies corrected where the fix can be proven safe; a repair that can’t be proven safe is rolled back and flagged, never silently kept.

  • A clear list of the calls left to you

    Anything Crosspad can’t prove equivalent — high-speed rule intent, for example — is named as an engineering decision, not quietly dropped.

If we can’t verify a critical part of the migration, we don’t mark it safe.

What that price does not buy: an identical one-to-one result, manufacturability, or electrical or regulatory correctness. The report tells you exactly what was verified and what was not, and the delivered board can still carry KiCad DRC violations. A qualified engineer must review the files before manufacturing. Checkout states this again before you pay.

Migrating a whole archive? We assess before we quote.

We don’t publish a pack above 10 projects, and we don’t promise that every file in a large archive is automatically completable — either would be a claim we can’t stand behind. Instead we scan the archive, classify each project, and quote the scope we can actually complete. Projects that need an engineering decision from you, or that fall outside supported formats, are named up front. You pay for the quoted scope only — and a project that never receives a Conforming Deliverable after Remediation is refunded at its per-project price.

How is one “project” counted?

One Source File per single-project Order. At launch the Supported Scope is one Altium .PcbDoc board document, version 6 or later, in either form Altium writes — the binary file, or the ASCII text form, which is converted and checked against an independent count of your board before anything is migrated — or a .zip that holds exactly one such board, opened for that board and for nothing else. .SchDoc schematics, .PrjPcb project files and libraries (.SchLib, .PcbLib) are outside it, inside an archive as much as on their own, and the free analysis names them as unsupported rather than billing for them. An archive carrying several boards is refused with every board named, rather than one of them chosen for you.

What exactly do I download?

A single file, crosspad-migration.zip. It carries what the engine produced for your run: your board as a .kicad_pcb, the component and net inventories, the DRC and import reports, and the full migration report.

What happens to credits I don’t use?

Unused credits stay on your account. One credit unlocks one migration, and credits are consumed only by successful migrations.

Is there a free option?

Yes. The in-browser PcbDoc viewer, the in-browser SchDoc viewer and the Altium Migration Scan are all free today, with no account. The scan shows what a standard migration would drop on your specific board before you decide to pay.

Will migrating with Crosspad save engineering time?

Crosspad does not publish a time-savings figure — manual migration time varies enormously by board. What this page publishes is the price: the packs the live checkout sells, per scope. Any comparison against doing it by hand rests on your own assumptions, not on a number from us.

Does the migrated board come back ready to fabricate?

No, and we do not sell it as one. Crosspad produces an automated migration with independent revalidation; on a real board the engine repairs what it can prove safe and re-checks it, and the delivered board can still carry KiCad DRC violations, which the report names. What you buy is the account of what was verified, repaired and left for a decision — not manufacturability, electrical or regulatory correctness. A qualified engineer must review the files in KiCad before fabrication, assembly, certification or any safety-critical use.

What if a project can’t be completed?

A project the free analysis marks Blocked can’t be ordered, so nothing is charged. Once processing has started, Remediation comes first: if the first attempt doesn’t produce a Conforming Deliverable, we re-process it — alternate migration strategies, repairs, reconstruction, guided Decisions, revalidation and re-delivery — within the Remediation Period. If there is still no Conforming Deliverable after that, the Fee for that project is refunded in full. Anything we can’t prove equivalent is disclosed in the report as an engineering decision, never silently dropped.
